Objective
The following exploratory award will be the first stage to a proposal for a cooperative research project (CRAFT) called GLAPPI (Global Approach to Plant Protection and Precision Irrigation). GLAPPI will be a European wide project in agriculture dealing with wheat cultures. GLAPPI is expected to result in a network of weather stations using a newly developed pathogen specific computer model for disease prognosis. This computer model is using detailed biological and meteorological data, predicting epidemiological patterns under qualitative and quantitative aspects. The envisaged R&D project will open up a new market opportunity for the SME consortium, which is already active in the telemetry and weather station business. The participating Sees will subcontract RTD work to the University of Kiel, Department of Psychopathology. The envisaged outcome of the stage 2 projects will be a weather-station based system, which will assist farmers in their decisions regarding the application of fungicides against pathogens.
