Using genetics to improve the quality and safety of sheep products

Objective

The project addresses the safety and quality of food in the sheep production chain, using genetics. Partners from France, UK, Italy and Spain with expertise in
(I) milk and meat sheep,
(ii) traits related to animal health and product quality, and
(iii) genetics are brought together to share resource and results in the aim to create a critical mass of researchers. The project will:
(I) share genetic resource populations
(ii) share the genotyping of the animals
(iii) measure traits related to food quality and safety including CLA of the milk, mastitis resistance, nematode parasite resistance and nasal botfly resistance
(iv) study candidate genes and functional genomic for theses traits
(v) perform biological and QTLanalysis of the data. Outputs include knowledge on food safety and quality traits. QTL and candidate genes, and implementation strategies. Participation of breeding organisations means that the results will be applied immediately to the sheep sector

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: https://op.europa.eu/en/web/eu-vocabularies/euroscivoc.
