Pan-European Network for Neuroscience Research Infrastructure and Strengthening of Support capacities

Project description

Promoting the free flow of neuroscience research and innovation

In European neuroscience research and innovation (R&I), significant challenges persist, hindering progress in the field. These include barriers to collaboration, funding gaps, undeveloped skills, and a lack of alignment in R&I policies across institutions and regions. Addressing these obstacles is crucial for maximising the potential of European talent and infrastructure in neuroscience. In this context, the EU-funded PANERIS project aims to pool European talent and align R&I strategies, policies, and funding programmes to enhance access to neuroscience infrastructure and resources. Capacity building, skill development, and an internationalisation strategy are key focus areas. Interaction with R&I networks is expected to foster synergies with regional and national authorities. PANERIS will promote knowledge and technology exchange in the European Research Area.

Objective

Current challenges in European Research and Innovation (R&I) infrastructure in neuroscience include barriers for collaboration, funding gaps, undeveloped skills, or lack of alignment in R&I policies. PANERIS consortium aims to be more effective together by i) ensuring access to a wider pool of European talent to neuroscience-related infrastructure and ii) contributing to the alignment of their R&I strategies, policies and funding programs at institutional, regional and national level. Access to excellent neuroscience infrastructure and resources will be maximised through capacity building, tackling key skills, and setting a common internationalisation strategy among the participating entities. Three widening entities and one non-widening will promote knowledge exchange among early-stage researchers while addressing issues like research administration, communication, ethics, human resources, technological transfer or open science, among others. Moreover, interaction with key R&I networks will not only increase the global proficiency of consortium members but will also contribute to engage with regional and national authorities for the creation of valuable synergies in funding programs and policies. Overall, PANERIS will consolidate borderless R&I strategies in neuroscience, contributing to the free flow of knowledge and technology in the European Research Area.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
