DEMETA is a Green Chemistry company specialized in the development of new generation catalysts to produce high-performance materials and chemicals.

The H2020 EIC Accelerator i-CARE focuses on the development of a new family of high-performance materials branded NexTene™. Environment protection is a core value of DEMETA and NexTene™ is produced using green chemistry principles. NexTene™ is a novel polymer which combines a unique set of features, especially in term of durability, mechanical and thermal properties. In addition to its exceptional performance-in use, NexTene™ displays a 47% lower carbon footprint compared to conventional materials (e.g. epoxy resins, polyurethanes or polyesters). This polymer can be used in many fields such as:
• Energy: for windmill blades and hydro turbines, hydrogen storage tanks and ultra-deep offshore equipment, to cope with mechanical constraints;
• Automotive: carbon-fibres reinforced composites for tougher structural parts, body panels for trucks and tractors;
• Other Industrial applications;

The overall objectives of the i-CARE project are the following :
• Work Package 1: Develop NexTene formulation for renewable energy applications, esp. composites applications;
• Work Package 2: Qualify NexTene formulations, esp. in Oil & Gas applications (e.g. pipe coating)
• Work Package 3: NexTene’s supply chain implementation (procurement, production, logistics, HSE, etc.)
• Work Package 4: Update go-to-market strategy and business plan, accelerate dissemination, communication, and sales
• Work Package 5: Project management, IP management
• Work Package 6: Market deployment through investment in world-class prototyping center and a sales team
Main results achieved during i-CARE project
• NexTene grade and process developed for glass fibre composite application, commercial launch in summer 2021
• Confirmed benefits of NexTene resins in the production, extraction, transport and storage of green and native hydrogen
• One grade ready for commercialisation in Oil & Gas (Insulation covers) and 2 others under development with very promising results
• Catalyst production validated at pre-commercial scale, and partner selected for industrial scale volumes
• Supply chain operational for NexTene formulation with investment plan well defined to accompany the volume increase
• First industrial scale production of NexTene
• First sales in automotive application
• Confirmed the 48% carbon footprint reduction compared to conventional material such as epoxy or polyurethane
• ISO 45001 and ISO 9001 certification
• Construction of Demeta’s Technical Centre ready to start
We expect to commercialize a novel material that will provide better performance in use compared to conventional polymers (epoxy, polyurethane, polyester) while being easier to process, and with a 47% lower carbon footprint compared to epoxy
